The NBA trade deadline was rather uneventful, especially for Cal players. Ryan Anderson is staying with the Houston Rockets, Allen Crabbe is staying with the Portland Trail Blazers, Jaylen Brown is staying with the Boston Celtics, and Tyrone Wallace is staying with the Utah Jazz. I hadn't heard Anderson's name mentioned in trade rumors, but I saw some reports that Allen Crabbe might get moved and the Celtics were rumored to be looking to make a big move, making Jaylen Brown a possible trade chip. As for Tyrone Wallace, he's currently with the Jazz' D-League team for the season, Salt Lake City Stars, so it would have been surprising to see his draft rights dealt at the deadline.
Anderson is having a solid season with the Rockets, averaging 13.9 points and 5 rebounds per game on 42.1% shooting from the field, 40.7% shooting from three-point range, and 84.7% shooting from the foul line. The Rockets are third in the Western Conference at 41-18 and 8 games back of the #1 seeded Warriors. Anderson has been a big part of the Rockets' success and they clearly see him as an integral part of their playoff push going forward.
Crabbe is having the best season of his young career, averaging 10.4 points per game on 45.9% shooting from the field, 43.0% shooting from three-point range, and 86.5% shooting from the foul line. Crabbe signed a 4-year, $74,832,500 extension with the Trail Blazers over the summer, so it would have been a little surprising to see them move him. Clearly, the Trail Blazers are pleased with his progress and continue to see him as a part of their future. The Trail Blazers are also fighting for a playoff spot, just one game back of the 8th seeded Denver Nuggets at 24-33.
Brown is averaging 5.7 points and 2.6 rebounds on 42.7% shooting from the field, 30.4% shooting from three-point range, and 72.1% shooting from the foul line in 15.5 minutes. Brown has steadily improved over the course of the season and is becoming more and more of an important part of the Celtics' lineup. I heard nothing about him being mentioned in any sort of trade, so it appears as though the Celtics genuinely like Brown and want to see him continue to grow in a Celtics' uniform.
As for Tyrone Wallace, he is spending the season with the Salt Lake City Stars in the D-League. The fact that the Jazz didn't trade his draft rights indicates that they still have a commitment to him and want to give him a shot in training camp next fall. Wallace is averaging 16.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game on 42.7% shooting from the field, 22.0% shooting from three-point range, and 72.9% shooting from the foul line with the Stars. Wallace's three-point shooting needs a lot more work, but his free throw percentage is very encouraging. He is overall progressing and that is all the Jazz are expecting out of him at this juncture.
