The University of the Pacific has hired California assistant and pitching coach Mike Neu as its new head coach, a move that certainly proves the administration is committed to winning at a high level.
Neu’s hire doesn’t come as a huge surprise. The Tigers parted ways with long-time head coach Ed Sprague a couple of weeks ago, and UOP quickly moved on several very solid candidates. USC assistant Matt Curtis was in the mix for the position, as was local favorite and talented junior college head coach Reed Peters, among others.
The Neu hire is a very good one for the Tigers. Neu spent the past four seasons as an assistant for the Golden Bears, where he helped the program navigate through its roughest patch ever facing extinction, rebound, recruit well and get to a point where the Bears, even without him next season, could very well again be a College World Series participant and national title contender.
