And not for the reasons UConn's women's BB coach or the owner of the Mavs have said. Recruiting is a really sorry business what with all of the influences on the best kids, especially in the perceived one-and-done camps. While it is exciting to see Cal in play for some of the highest-rated kids, it's also sad because it means we will now need to go through this garbage every year now if we get into this one-and-done cycle. Before people worry about things like changing the shot-clock time or improving refereeing, how about eliminating shoe company, basetball camp, and inner-circle non-family influences on kids? One way to do that is make kids stay in college at least two years (I'd prefer three) like in football - it would make the men's college game much better by keeping kids in programs longer and improve kids' education (and IMO play at the next level), while reducing the pull that other's have on them by increasing the time between committing and the pay checks. You could even look at allowing kids to enter without going to college at all, but require kids that go to college to have to stay at least two years so that people have the freedom of choice.

Right now the whole thing is broken. I don't even watch college basketball anymore (except Cal of course) - I don't know who the players are and agree the quality of the game has suffered immensely in the current set up. The only thing that keeps the game popular is betting on the NCAA tourney IMO, which is sad in and of itself. It won't be too long before even that won't keep the game soluable IMO.
