Talked with Cal's QB commit this afternoon. Good visit for him last weekend. A couple noteworthy things:
In case there was anyone thinking Goff might come back, he's not. He told Max as much, definitively.
Gilliam said the week or so between when the Dykes rumors started and Sonny signing his extension were tough for him. As an EE, he wasn't sure where he would end up if the staff moved on (did say that it would still likely be Cal but couldn't be sure since he had no clue how he'd get along with a new staff). Dykes called him as soon as the extension was signed.
He'll be spending the next 5 weeks in the gym, bulking up ( he lost about 10 pounds over the course of Thousand Oaks' season).
He was told the QB competition this spring is open, and that the staff will play the best guy. He intends to compete.
The OV was good for him. Lots of time spent with the team and the cloud of coaching uncertainty not hanging over things. Said the basketball game was a big highlight.
He's working hard on Stovall, LJ Humphrey and AJ Brown still.
Like Jake Curhan, its surreal for him to visit Cal as a recruit this month knowing he'll be back in five weeks as a college freshman.
