I must confess that all this realignment crap and NIL has me really strongly considering going all NFL and dropping college sports altogether as an active involved fan. My son played college soccer but the direction of college sports has me questioning my loyalty to Cal and to college athletics in general.
I would be very interested in Cal joining the Big 10 and how that may play out, but anything else just does not intrigue me much. If I am going to watch semi pro football give me the real thing. The NFL. I have been an avid recruiting junkie but now it is all about NIL and the CFP and ESPN is just so shameless it makes me angry and sad at the same time.
This 2021 season is upon us and while I will be an interested fan I just cannot muster the same feelings for the game I have felt for over 40 years. I expect Cal to be left behind in realignment and if that happens I likely just watch my 49ers and spend my Saturdays going wine tasting, enjoying live music etc .
A lot to do in the Bay Area. Watching college sports eat its own is not that appealling to me. Hopefully a good 2021 season on the field can energize me. But right now even with camp starting tomorrow I am not anywhere close to my usual enthusiasm. Go Bears. The times are a changing and I am not down with the changes.
