GoldenBearReport - Cal making its move with four-star LB Tre Edwards after recent visit
Cal is now right in the mix with four-star linebacker Tre Edwards after his first visit to the school earlier this month

Four-star 2023 linebacker Tre Edwards is one of the recruits who was on campus recently from Team Makasi and Chula Vista-Mater Dei. Edwards and his 7-on-7 team made the trek up from San Diego for a tournament and that doubled as a chance to see Cal in person. The Bears have been involved in pursuing Edwards but it has not been one of the schools he had talked about most leading up to the visit. Since that trip things have changed and the Bears are right in the mix after he was very much impressed during his time on campus. Cal, he says, has turned up the heat in his recruitment and it is one of the schools he is watching closely moving into the rest of the spring. He is going to narrow his list likely once spring ball comes to an end, but Cal is now one of the schools to watch with him.
For some context, I didn't just ask him about Cal so this is a genuine reaction to the visit. Sometimes when recruits know you want to talk about one school in particular they slant their reaction on the positive side. Him having this type of reaction to the visit feels very real and that is definitely positive for the Bears.
“They’ve always been in the back of my mind, but going out there and seeing the school and being able to interact with the staff and the players really did open my mind big time, most definitely. ... They’ve applied way more pressure recently. I wouldn’t say they’re just now becoming a priority, because they’ve always been in the picture for me, but they’re most definitely climbing the charts.”
He had almost 100 tackles last season to go with 17 tackles for loss and six sacks for an undefeated team that won a state title. He also earned the CIF Defensive Player of the Year award in his division in San Diego. A big-time talent whose strength is stopping the run and making tackles.
