As a basketball nerd, I'm fascinated to see how Cal uses 5'9 point guard Brandon Chauca this season. He can score off the bench and knock down threes, something that isn't Sam Singer's strength. Given that he is a different kind of player from Singer, I do expect Cuonzo Martin to play Brandon Chauca during the season, but I'm not entirely sure how he will be implemented since the bulk of point guard minutes will be given to Sam Singer and Tyrone Wallace.
The best guess I have at the moment of as to how Chauca will be used is that I think he'll be used as an offensive spark plug similar to Vinne "The Microwave" Johnson, who played for the Detroit Pistons. Obviously, Chauca isn't Vinnie Johnson, but I expect his role to be similar in that I think he'll get brought in in special situations when the offense is having a hard time scoring. I don't think he'll necessarily play in every game, but he will get minutes. Anyways, I'm curious to see if you guys agree with me and what your thoughts are.
