He opted out today from the remaining three years of his current contract, leaving a cool $71 million on the table. Either he truly wants to play elsewhere (it's possible), or he thinks he can get more years/more money.. He's coming off a great season, but that seems like a bit of a risk to me. $71 million divided by 3 works out to about $23,667,000 per season. How much more per year can he feasibly expect? Wonder who the bidders are gonna be. I am half hoping that the Dodgers bail on this one if they have to go much higher or longer (in terms of contract duration) to get him. He's no spring chicken.
