Let’s go through the numbers in this edition of the Big Board Notebook

Here's the accompanying Big Board

Quarterback: 1

Justyn Martin has been the guy since they offered and he committed in January. They’ve solidified his commitment over the last week with the official visit. Martin will be the only quarterback in this class.

Running back: 2

The Bears got a big start to their class with Kaleb Johnson earlier this week, but have been looking to add more than one running back in the class due to not having a 2021 RB. Of the two uncommitted, Jaydn Ott is (in my mind) the likelier of the two to land at Cal, as he had a solid visit these past few days. He did decommit from Oregon after committing very early, so there’s a chance he may want to wait, but Ott is a high priority for the Bears.

Wide Receiver: 1

This isn’t a position with too many players offered at this point, and Cal may be content to stay put, considering the numbers they had in 2020 and ‘21, the extra year of eligibility, and the like. They’d take either of Plummer or Ayomanor, both big WR target who can run

Tight End: 1-2

Nickel’s the big target this weekend along with Plummer, though Michigan State has been fervent in their pursuit of the Milton TE. Tagaloa’s OV never got rescheduled, as he’s got some work to do in the classroom. Cal also will continue to look at Nick Morrow at the position, though he could size up to offensive lineman as well.

Offensive Line: 3-4

Getting Vatikani earlier in the week cleared things up, as the Bears look to add more offensive linemen to the class. Others have thought that Cal may only take one interior lineman, and while I don’t disagree, there’s a couple guys on the board, namely Yoon and Brown, who have plenty of positional flexibility. A tackle prospect in the next few days would be a boon for the Bears. Maikkula is making his decision on the 4th of July (possibly earlier), and he’s going to be an interesting one to watch, with an OV to Duke on deck this weekend. Ramsey seems like a Cal-WVU battle from my view.

Defensive Line: 3

Cal is done on the defensive line, with Burrell and Moi in and Williams solid with the Bears
Edge: 2

Same goes for edge players with Thomas and Tuitele. No Joseph Adedire visit this weekend was telling.

ILB: 1

What went for the wide receiver position is the same as with the ILB position, as the Bears don’t have a senior at the position going into the 2021 season, with Evan Tattersall being the most tenured player, in his fourth year in the program. Banks may be the most feasible prospect right now, having visited the Bears last week, though he has been quiet since. ILB isn’t the biggest priority for Cal at the moment though.

DB: 2-3, maybe more

One of the weirder positions with a handful of later offers and a couple official visitors from this week that had either gotten offers in the past couple weeks or who decommitted from other schools recently. The Bears hosted Avyonne Jones, a onetime Oklahoma State commitment, and new offer Jeremiah Earby on official visits this week, along with Zeke Berry on an unofficial earlier in the week. Cam Sidney is a recent offer, while Oliver, Prysock, and Allen have been targets but haven’t visited. It will be interesting to see who the Bears land first, especially when Cal has had success with developing DBs in the Wilcox era.
